Is our planet green?
Climate change is a bigger concern now than ever before.
Increasing CO2 emissions is closely related to increasing global temperatures.
Worldwide CO2 Emissions
The US contributed the most CO2 (in million tonnes) up through 2004, until it was exceeded by China in 2005.

CO2 emissions in the US have been consistent throughout, while emissions in China have been growing exponentially.
However, global CO2 emission-energy ratios are actually decreasing!
Rather than looking at raw emissions, let's look at the emission-energy ratio.

Emission-energy ratio =
CO2 released from power production / energy generated

While CO2 emissions are overall increasing, countries are improving energy generation by, releasing lower amounts of CO2 during energy generation processes!
Total renewable energy generation is increasing worldwide
Total Renewable Energy =
Hydro + Wind + Solar + Others (Biomass, Biofuels).

Europe, North America, and China are the biggest contributors.

Let's take a look at the 3 major renewable energy sources.
Hydro Energy Generation in the World
China has been focusing on increasing hydroelectric energy generation. Other countries have not experienced the same growth.
Wind Energy Generation in the World
Wind energy is a relatively new type of renewable energy that has gained traction since 2010.
Solar Energy Generation in the World
Like wind energy, solar is also relatively new. China, US and Japan are the top contributors of solar energy generation.
Summary:
Renewable Energy Percent Ranking by Country
Countries from Europe and Americas are beating countries from Asia in renewable energy ratio:
(renewable energy generated / total energy consumed).

Iceland ....................... 80.1%
Norway ...................... 68.4%
Sweden ...................... 38.5%

But the general trend is that renewable energy sources are being used more and more!
We have to keep working towards a greener planet!
